The Cavern bring 2005 in with a bang
Dave House
Dave House
Returning to the Cavern yet again on New Years Eve and ready to unleash his melodic sound with a full on rock band with Dave at the helm and even admitting that the first track with the band sound a lot like Meatloaf and it did, yet with a twist. Front man for Lucky Thirteen, Dave cruised his way through an hour long set to finish off the Cavern’s six hours of live music with a packed Cavern transfixed on Dave and his acoustic guitar. Dave proved that even though he comes back time and time again. Apologising for pulling out of the show with Hundred Reasons but tonight he made up for it with a quality show.
An Emergency
An Emergency
It was this time last year that An Emergency played their very first gig and tonight they celebrated in style with their fast passionate punk rock. Having received a lot of good press in Rock Sound last month An Emergency are on a roll and they secured themselves a strong following. With general banter among friends, An Emergency are ready to make 2005 their year.
Quiller Memorandum
Quiller Memorandum
With the guitars made to work the instrumentals reach a crescent of emotional screaming vocals. Almost ghostly, eerie sounds ascend into manic guitar riffs that entrance with their fullness. Quiller Memorandum have something special about them but I cant quite put my finger on it at the moment but I am sure to see them again in the future. The New Years Eve gig has a way of making bands who play some of their first shows hear and Quiller Memorandum definitely have what it takes to blast their way through and be recognised.
WAG feat. Gunboy
WAG
WAG was one lonesome guy with his guitar, seated at the front of the stage ready to make people laugh, feel depressed and laugh some more when Gunboy came onstage. Entertaining all WAG interacted well picking on individuals in the audience to react to his jokes or just to have a chat with those he already knew. Getting Gunboy up onstage for a rapping showdown bringing one of the funniest moments of the day with WAG jumping and leaving Gunboy to finish off, leaving his guitar with someone in the audience.
The Cut Ups
The Cut Ups
Playing only their second gig The Cut Ups went through what seemed to be a very very short set, maybe four songs? Yet The Cut Ups were able to get across what they were all about by hitting the Cavern with some solid rock. Featuring John Shoe which ended up being a fixture in at least small parts in a couple of other bands The Cut Ups were able to impress the Cavern with what they had to offer and only being their second show they are sure to become more solid onstage and their fan base grow.
Robo Lint
Robo Lint
Minus their stage attire yet luckily still wearing clothes Robo Lint stepped up to the challenge of playing after Spitting Blood. Even after technical difficulties Robo Lint got the Cavern dancing and laughing just like they always do. Robo Lint no matter what day or time it is seem to know how to entertain you and of course they did, their professionalism which seems so amateurish really makes you forget about everything and dance. Having now become a near permanent fixture in the walls of the Cavern Robo Lint will of course be back soon.
Spitting Blood
Spitting Blood
Aggressive? Yes, Loud? Yes and very punk (they even finished their set in under ten minutes, - now that’s real punk) Dave AKA ‘The Growler’ jumped around the stage and the crowd like a man possessed. The rest of the band in away even though vital to Spitting Blood fade in the shadow as chants of ‘he’s the growler’ ring round as Dave jumps into the crows and finishing off with a little bit of hip hop.
Structures
Structures
Exeter Cavern capped off 2004 with an all ages with eight underground bands. First up was Structures, Unleashing a massacre of guitars, crashing drums capped off with screaming vocals that hit the already active Cavern who turned up early for their dose of the Structures. The Structures take you on a journey that goes that seems to take you through the eye of a storm where more soothing much more melodic lines came in only for it to return at the other end ready to kick off once more.
Exeter Cavern Exeters home for live underground music. In the 11 years it has been open the likes of Coldplay, Muse Sick of it All, Hundred Reasons and Afrika Bambaataa have graced the stage.
Open 7 days a week.
An Emergency Tyler members combine with the drummer from The Red Letter Code to form a punk rock band (with noodles)
WAG A man and his electric guitar who is able to make you laugh yet at the same time feel depressed
Robolint Random Ska Punk played in costume with barrels of fun thrown in.
Structures A blend of emo culminating in wailing guitars from the Exeter based quartet
