BullDog Bash (Saturday Main Stage)
Sat 14 Aug 2004
Review and photos coming soon
The Wildhearts
Ginger Walls - Vocals/Guitar
Chris Jagdhar - Guitar
John Poole - Bass
Andrew Stidolph - Drums
The Wildhearts
Choosing a headliner to replace Chuck Berry who was taken ill, forcing him to cancel this prestigious date with the Angels was no mean task, but The Wildhearts were a fitting band to top off the Bulldog Bash. Armed with a set full of hits Ginger was ‘on top of the world’. The main stage heaved as Ginger and the band strode to be greeted by a thunderous roar from the expectant crowd that nearly blew the canvas away. Once again the lighting and sound was faultless. Ginger having just returned from Japan and his tours with The Darkness joked about changing guitars after each song with that he brought out his signature guitar. John Poole made full use of the stage, with the sweat flowing he cavorted about resting only to pose at the front of the stage, more reserved CJ and his colourful guitar is the ideal compliment to Ginger whilst Andrew with his manic style thrashing away at the drums. Never failing to disappoint the Bulldog Bash were treated to a set of pure rock genius.
Never The Bride
Nikki Lamborn - Vocals
Murray Gould - Guitar
Greg Harewood - Bass
Catherine Feeney - Keyboards/Guitar
John Tonks - Drums
Never The Bride
Living up to Roger Daltry’s claim that Nikki Lamborn is the greatest female vocalist on the planet, Nikki goes along way to proving this tonight with a fantastic and powerful voice that even hits the ears of all at the bar at the other end of the tent. Combine this with the song writing abilities of Catherine Feeney to form an awesome duo, but don’t forget the rest of the band as Murray Gould on guitar has played with the likes of Elton John and is currently working with Dido, John Tonks on drums has worked with Fish, Raulo Mallo, Thunder, Lamb and many more and bassist Greg Harwoods has worked with James Brown and Barry white to just name two of many. Putting all these fine musicians together was sure to turn out with a good result but not only was it a good result it was a brilliant result with a great response.
Saltdog
Andy Sherwood - Vocals
Dan Peachey - Guitar
Ben Maynard - Bass
Dub Sherwood - Banjo/Mandolin
Matthew Borges - Fiddle
Danny Sceats - Drums
Saltdog
Salt Dog formerly known as Salty Dog take the main stage playing some quality music that saw the crowd dancing with their beers in their hands having a hell of a good time. With a sound similar to that of The Levellers Salt Dog played a folk styled melodic country rock that utilised the mandolin and violin to perfection. The band have been together for ten years with the odd line up change proved their style and tightness on stage with a set that any band would be proud of and leaving Never My Bride and The Wildhearts with a task of giving the Bulldog Bash a better set that Salt Dog.
Electric Eel Shock
Morimoto Akihito – Vocals/Guitar
Maekawa Kazuto – Bass
Ito Tomoharu - Drums
T
Electric Eel Shock
he three piece Japanese rockers graced the main stage with some heavy rock n roll that got all the younger fans in the crowd and some of the older people in the tent intrigued with their style of screaming rock n roll as many times as possible to get a huge cheer from all. As normal the drummer Ito Tomoharu wore a sock over his credentials and tonight a rare cover up by wearing a t shirt. Electric Eel Shock may be new to a lot of people today in the tent but they deserved their positioning on the bill with an energetic set that saw each member of the band jumping in the air and proving that they know one of the Bulldog Bash’s traditions by raising a can and downing in one.
Beach Buggy
Jack Straker - Vocals/Guitar
Al B. Kirkey - Bass
Danny Sicks – Drums
Bert Fourman – Drums
Beach Buggy
Beach Buggy are an unusual band and can only be categorised as strange rock with a punk rock feel. Bringing older riffs to their sound this bunch of friends that started by goofing around and don’t take themselves too seriously. Punk rock that has gone almost uncovered by the UK press is now beginning to get the recognition it deserves, What the band lack in stage presence is made up for by a set full of musical talent.
The Hustlers
George Armeniakos - Vocals/Acoustic Guitar
Nick Fysakis - Guitar
Chris 'Buddy' Zios - Double Bass/Backing Vocals
Yiannis 'Body' Varlas' - Drums
The Hustlers
The Hustlers from Greece brought an almost classic rock n roll feel to the proceedings with style and charisma. When watching and listening to George you cannot help but believe that Elvis was only visiting Mars as is now back to play the Bulldog Bash a range of country rock n roll. This was the first band of the weekend to bring this style of country rock n roll to the main stage and play it with perfect, professional sound and a very tight onstage show. No rock n roll band would be complete without the electric guitar solos and The Hustlers deliver them with perfect timing and skill which demonstrates how good this rock n roll group really are.
Malibu Stacey
Jonny – Vocals
Kes – Guitar
Leigh – Bass
Chris - Drums
Malibu Stacey
Featuring an ex member of festival favourites Terrovision former bassist Leigh Marklew having teamed up with ex-Leafeater guitarist and song writer Kes Loy and local drummer extraordinaire Chris Bussey completing the line up with ex-Kanvas singer Jonny Wilson. Jonny Wilson was the last addition to Malibu Stacey’s crew after hundreds of auditions and onstage you can see that they made the right choice in picking him as he jumped, pulled faces and cavorted around the stage in a similar fashion to Liam Creamer of This Girl. Oozing passion and enthusiasm Malibu Stacey went down really well with the early riser at the Bulldog Bash and got their well deserved applause. With such a great sound and live show Malibu Stacey are sure to go far.
Smith & Jackson Band
Smith & Jackson Band
Starting Saturday off with a lively set that got the beer filled bikers enjoyed their lively set that included many covers that got all singing along to some old classics. Tight onstage and great musicians made it a perfect start to the day to wake those sleepily watching and get them to their feet applauding.
The Wildhearts Ginger fronts the creatively brilliant rock band.
Saltdog Saltdog are a 6 piece semi-pro outfit based in Colchester, Essex. They have gained a cult status that is usually reserved for signed bands. They play original songs, no covers and use a banjo, electric fiddle, mandolins, guitars and drums to mesmerize our audiences.
Beach Buggy BEACHBUGGY started as a bunch of friends goofing around playing in a rock band, and it has pretty much remained that way all along. Generally ignored by the British music press and labels alike.
Malibu Stacey A mixture of punk and rock thats infectious.
